The fireworks show must go on - and we can help

Posted on April 10, 2024 at 2:29 PM by Bryan Obenchain

Dear Minot:

What better time to celebrate our nation’s independence than the Fourth of July. It’s a time of patriotism, thankfulness, and the perfect opportunity to honor our nation’s Declaration of Independence and the sacrifices made by those who secured our nation’s freedom.

The quintessential American holiday is full of food, family, and fun. And fireworks.

In Minot, our community routinely celebrates the Fourth of July with a host of events in Roosevelt Park, full of activities for children, music, food, and fellowship. For many years now, the final event in Minot is a massive fireworks show held at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds.

Vehicles park on the Fairgrounds and line the roadways on all sides of the Fairgrounds to watch the fireworks show. The free show is amazing, and provides the perfect ending to every Fourth of July holiday in Minot.

But while the event is free for everyone to enjoy, it certainly isn’t free to create. The Minot Fireworks Association has been organizing and producing the fireworks show for years. The fireworks display is designed for the community, with the intent of promoting a family friendly event that the entire community can enjoy.

As a non-profit, the association is built and run using donations from the community. And while it’s only April, July 4 will be here before we know it, and the MFA could use our help. Donations are accepted, large and small. Sponsorships are available for larger donations.

The majority of the fireworks used in the show are made locally, and the organizers and their team volunteer their time to create and plan the show. It’s a testament to their willingness to put in long hours and spend time away from their families to create something for the betterment of their community.

We all owe the Minot Fireworks Association and everyone involved with the organization a debt of gratitude for the work they’ve done through the years. And we can all help make sure this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display is even better than ever.

For me, the fireworks show is the culmination of a Fourth of July holiday full of events that celebrate what makes Minot and our country a great place to live. After a day spent celebrating our great nation with family, friends, and food, there’s nothing better than settling into a parking spot around the Fairgrounds to enjoy the dazzling display of fireworks.

It’s the perfect ending to a perfect holiday.

Between now and July 4, the Minot Fireworks Association will be raising money to help cover the costs of this year’s event. You might see them selling hot dogs or raising funds in some other ways. Hopefully, we can all help out a little bit to ensure the skies above Minot are lit up again on July 4 with another great fireworks display..

You can find more information about the Minot Fireworks Association at minotfireworks.com or on their Minot Fireworks Association Facebook page. There you’ll find opportunities to donate financially to this year’s event, or to sign up as a volunteer to help with the multitude of tasks that are necessary to make the show a success.

The fireworks show at the Fairgrounds has become a Minot tradition. And, according to tradition, the show must go on. We all can help make sure that happens.
